Solitude Mountain Resort is a ski area in Big Cottonwood Canyon of the Wasatch Mountains, about 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, adjacent to Brighton Ski Resort near the top of the canyon. With 1,200 acres of terrain, 66 trails, and over 2,000 feet of vertical, Solitude is known as one of the most family-oriented mountains in the Salt Lake area — roughly half of its trails are rated beginner or intermediate, the highest such ratio among Salt Lake City area resorts. The resort's terrain ranges from wide groomed runs to the dramatic bowl skiing of Honeycomb Canyon, accessed via the Summit Express chair which also connects riders to neighboring Brighton. Solitude and Brighton together offer the popular Solbright Pass giving skiers and riders access to both resorts. Because the entire Big Cottonwood Canyon area sits within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the surrounding landscape is a year-round destination for hiking, biking, and backcountry exploration beyond the ski season. For buyers seeking a true mountain property with canyon access and a quieter, more intimate resort atmosphere, Solitude offers a genuinely distinctive setting.
