Goshen is a small farming town of about 1,000 people in the southwest corner of Utah County. It sits in Goshen Valley just south of Utah Lake, surrounded by fields, wetlands and open views of the mountains. Where Is Goshen, Utah?

Goshen lies on U.S. Highway 6 between Santaquin and Elberta, at an elevation of about 4,550 feet. Santaquin and Payson are the closest towns for shopping and schools, and I-15 is a short drive east through Santaquin. Genola sits just to the north, and the open country of Goshen Valley runs west toward Elberta and the Tintic mining district.

History of Goshen

Pioneer Phineas Cook and a few other men explored Goshen Valley in 1856 while looking for stray cattle. Ten families settled there the following spring, in 1857, building a fort and planting crops. Cook became the first bishop and named the town after Goshen, Connecticut, his birthplace. An early settlement called Lower Goshen, a few miles to the northwest, was abandoned by the end of the 1860s, and the town grew around its present site. Goshen was incorporated in 1910 and has stayed agricultural ever since. More recently, the TV series The Chosen filmed on a Holy Land set built outside town.
