West Valley City is a city in Salt Lake County, incorporated in 1980 from a rapidly growing unincorporated area historically known by the community names of Granger, Hunter, Chesterfield, and Redwood. The Granger area was among the earliest settled parts of the western Salt Lake Valley, with Welsh Latter-day Saint pioneers arriving in 1849 and establishing irrigation systems and agriculture that shaped the community for generations. Today West Valley City is Utah's second-largest city, offering residents a central location with direct access to Interstate 215, State Route 201, and Bangerter Highway — connecting every part of the Salt Lake Valley with ease.
