Where Is Tucker, Utah?

Tucker sat in Spanish Fork Canyon in Utah County, about 7 miles below Soldier Summit on U.S. Route 6. The Tie Fork Rest Area, about 2 miles downstream, was built in its memory.

Tucker History

Originally called Clear Creek, the settlement grew up around a Denver and Rio Grande Western station that housed the helper engines used to push freight trains over Soldier Summit. It quickly reached a population of 500, with a boarding house, a company store, a saloon, and rows of homes filling the small canyon valley.

Tucker was also a junction for the Utah and Pleasant Valley Railway spur to the coal mines near today's Scofield Reservoir. It ran a post office from 1881 to 1919, took the name Tucker around 1900, and was abandoned as the railroad era faded. In 2009 the original townsite was buried during a U.S. Route 6 realignment.

Today the canyon around Tucker offers dramatic scenery, open land, and a quiet remoteness that appeals to hunters, recreationists, and rural land buyers.
