Sugar House sits on the southeast side of Salt Lake City, about 10 minutes from downtown. Buyers come for Sugar House Park, local shops and restaurants, the S-Line streetcar and Westminster University.

Where Is Sugar House?

Sugar House is in southeast Salt Lake City, roughly between 1300 East and 2300 East and from about 1700 South to I-80, with Millcreek to the south and South Salt Lake to the west. I-80 and I-215 are minutes away, and the S-Line streetcar connects the business district to TRAX at Central Pointe. The University of Utah is about 10 minutes north, and Parleys and Mill Creek canyons are a short drive east.

Historic bungalows: early 1900s homes on tree-lined streets around Westminster University and Fairmont Park.
Business district: condos, townhomes and apartments near shops, restaurants and the S-Line.

History of Sugar House

In the 1850s pioneer settlers built a mill here to make sugar from sugar beets. The sugar factory didn't last, but the name did. Sugar House grew into one of Salt Lake City's first suburbs, linked to downtown by streetcar, and its business district has been a local gathering place for more than a century. The Hidden Hollow nature area and the restored Parleys Creek trail keep a bit of open space in the middle of the neighborhood.
