Fairfield is a small town in Utah County nestled in the southwest corner of Cedar Valley, about 50 miles southwest of Salt Lake City and 5 miles south of Cedar Fort along State Route 73, part of the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Area. Founded in 1855 by John Carson and other settlers who called the area Frogtown, Fairfield has a fascinating history as a former boomtown — the nearby Camp Floyd military installation brought the population to over 7,000 during 1858-59, making it briefly one of the largest settlements in Utah before the troops were recalled east at the outbreak of the Civil War. Today the historic Stagecoach Inn, once used by stagecoach travelers, military personnel, and Pony Express riders, still stands in Fairfield as a museum.
