Riverton is a city in Salt Lake County located in the rapidly developing southwestern corner of the Salt Lake Valley, about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City. Bordered by South Jordan to the north, Draper to the east, Bluffdale to the south, and Herriman to the west, Riverton spans 12.6 square miles and has transformed dramatically over recent decades from a rural agricultural community into a thriving suburban city. The town traces its roots to the mid-1850s when the area was originally known as Gardnerville, growing slowly until irrigation canals brought water from the Jordan River and opened the land to broader settlement. Today Riverton offers newer residential development, strong community amenities, and convenient access to both Salt Lake City and Utah County via Interstate 15.
